WORKSHOP CONTENT

The national ramifications and international implications of China’s rise were explored at this workshop — from merits/perils of government by a single political party, Xi Jinping’s anti-corruption campaign, slowing economic growth and Internet/media control to the UN Paris climate agreement, turmoil in the financial markets, and regional military/security concerns.

These critical issues were addressed from both historical and contemporary perspectives, and took into account China’s evolving complex relations with the world community—especially the United States.

WORKSHOP FORMAT

Morning sessions included speaker presentations, panel discussions, and questions/answers. Afternoon sessions were used for developing lesson plans that teachers can use in their classrooms.  In the afternoon sessions, teachers formed small working groups to develop lesson plans, facilitated by experienced teachers. Speakers stayed in the afternoon to provide further consultation.

STIPEND OR CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT

Workshop attendees were able to opt for 1.6 Continuing Education Units (CEU) from San Francisco State University College of Extended Learning.

See more information on CEU.
